MEET ANNE LADERMAN

Forget the fancy bio stuff.

I'd rather tell you the real story behind You Yoga and why this whole "You belong here" thing isn't just a tagline - it's everything.

Here's what lights me up about this work, what gets me excited to roll out my mat every morning, and honestly? The questions you probably have too.

Here’s what most people ask me…

  • When I was seven years old, I was gifted a Dr. Suess “My Book About Me”. I clearly remember circling 3 different careers: a nurse, an actor, and a teacher. Even then, I knew I wanted to help people feel better and I loved being in front of people. Yoga turned out to be this beautiful blend of everything I love—the physical, mental, emotional, and the spiritual; all of it.

But the real magic happened when I took my first class with Monette at Monette's School of Yoga in Los Angeles in 1992. Something just clicked. It was like coming home to myself. I was newly married, working at a shoe store, feeling a bit lost, and suddenly I found this practice that connected me to who I really was. I've never forgotten that feeling of homecoming deep within my body.

The most transformative thing I've discovered in my 30+ years of practice? Learning how to release resistance when I'm challenged—whether I'm struggling in a pose or dealing with something difficult in life. If I can use my breath to create just a little space in my heart chakra, right in the center of my chest, sometimes I can actually move toward accepting really hard stuff.

That layer of ease in the heart that I can access no matter what's happening around me—that's the gift I want to share with you. Yoga is simply a tool to help us find that space.

  • I know this in my bones: we all have light and goodness inside us. Every single one of us has the capacity to grow and expand into more love. When I say "you belong here," I'm talking about your truest Self—that part of you that absolutely belongs in this space.

Now, let's be real. If you can't easily get up and down from the floor, my fusion, flow & sculpt classes might not be the perfect fit. But you know what? You'd be absolutely perfect for my myofascial release or restorative classes. Or we could work together privately. Or I could even create a group class specifically designed for what you need.

I actually love when someone chooses to just sit in their chair and meditate while others are moving around them. Here's the thing—difficult emotions come up in yoga classes. You might catch yourself thinking "I can't do what she's doing" or comparing yourself to others. But every time you notice that comparing, that clenching feeling? That's actually another opportunity to soften and come home to yourself.

  • "Let the beauty you love be what you do." That's Rumi, and it just captures everything for me. There are a thousand ways to bow down and honor what we love.

I also keep Eleanor Roosevelt's words close to my heart: "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." When I was stuck in the corporate world, I had that quote on a rock on my desk. It reminded me every day that following our dreams takes courage and belief in ourselves. That little rock helped give me the strength to leave that world and step into this life I love.

  • I'm still learning after all these years—I'll always be a student first. When you come to my class, it's going to be different every time. Sometimes dramatically different! I hope that means you never get bored, because I'm always mixing things up.

I do my absolute best to stay present with whatever's happening in the room while still having a plan. That balance between structure and spontaneity? I think it creates a more integrated practice. Plus, I offer so many different types of classes, there's always something new to explore together.

  • Here's what I believe: when we're in a group class together, it's actually your job to be your own teacher, even though I'm the one leading. I give you lots of options so you can authentically drop in and choose what's right for you in that moment—instead of automatically thinking "that's the hardest option, so that's what I should do."

  • Every single private session is completely different because I get to meet you exactly where you are. I have one client I've worked with for five years, and we've never done the same thing twice. One week we might focus on Thai yoga therapy, another week we're working the core, sometimes we explore inversions together.

The beauty of working one-on-one is the flexibility. I get to ask: Where are you today? What does your body need? What would feel good? How can we move towards the best possible version of Self? It's yoga that's completely tailored to you and what you need in that moment.

  • Oh honey, if you want to touch your toes someday, yoga might be exactly what you need! You're definitely never going to get there if you don't start somewhere. And guess what? Touching your toes isn't the point anyway—showing up for yourself is.

  • First, take a breath. Whether you're brand new to yoga or you've been practicing for years, there's absolutely a place for you here. Look at my class schedule and trust what calls to you.

Here's what I want you to remember: difficult feelings might come up, and that's not only okay—it's part of the practice. Every option I offer is valid. You get to choose what serves you in each moment. That's not just true in yoga class; that's true in life.

If you want to start with something more personal, let's schedule a private session. We'll create a practice that meets you exactly where you are, and we'll go from there.
